A new study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration shows roughly 8 percent of college students use marijuana on a daily basis.
The study asked 9 million full-time students about their daily marijuana use, and found that 703,759 students responded that they used cannabis on an average day.
The study revealed that about 195,000 part-time college students (out of 2 million) used pot on an average day.
The data also gave insight on students’ first experiences with marijuana.
Each day 1,299 full-time students had their first experience with marijuana between 2011 and 2014, the data shows. Roughly 150 part-timers tried weed for the first time each day.
Since 1991, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health has collected data on “substance use and treatment among the civilian, noninstitutionalized population aged 12 or older, including young adults in college.”
